Iran

If I were to describe Iran with only one characteristic word, it would have to be Hospitality. Several times I was amazed to see how much people would go out of their way to help me find a bookstore or the right bus etc.
Persia of course has a rich history which is still visible through many interesting sites with Persepolis and Bam at the forefront. Even though Iran is an Islamic Republic, I found it more secular then I had thought before arrival. Whether the society has changed in recent years or if it is us in the West that have a biased picture of it, I don't know.
I enjoyed Iran very much and loved the people, but there are certain negative parts of the society that I can't overlook. I encountered evidence of discrimination against women and to some extent minorities like Afghans as well as severe ignorance of Human Rights in police stations.
